Swaziland Volunteers

History of the School

Pupils at Kalamdladla

kaLamdladla Primary School is located in the south of the country in the kaPhunga community and is one of the largest primary schools in the area. kaLamdladla Primary School is involved in various campaigns to create an awareness of  HIV and AIDS in the kaPhunga community. Of the 500 children enrolled at kaLamdladla Primary School, 219 are orphans whose parents succumbed to HIV/Aids or other illnesses caused by the lack of basic necessities. The staff at kaLamdladla Primary School consist of 17 teachers including the principal Mr. Patrick Dludlu, a secretary, a cook for the kids and a night watch man. The school is double streaming from Grades 1-7. Each class has an average of 40 pupils.

Fundraising

Swaziland Primary School

The following projects still require additional sponsorship.

Two teachers houses have been built up to roof level but need additional funding to complete them.

At the moment  kaLamdladla Primary School relies on rainwater and a nearby stream for drinking water and to cook meals for the children. A fundraising scheme has been started to raise money for a borehole. This would provide the children with clean drinking water and also allow the staff to build a vegetable garden to help feed the children.

As education is not free in Swaziland, all our children are sponsored by external organisations. From 2010  every child in the country will receive free Grade 1 and 2 education, plus all stationery. So we need your help to ensure we can continue to provide the children of kaPhunga with an education.
